My name is Ruth Sutcliffe. I'm an author and academic based in Queensland, Australia. I have a background in both science and theology. My day job is teaching science at university and I'm currently researching for a PhD in historical theology focusing on the early, persecuted church. I have another blog which has been going since February 2015. This one is a lot heavier going and presupposes a reasonable knowledge of the Bible and Christian faith. It discusses the doctrines of the Trinity and the atonement; who God is and how he saves us through Christ. It engages with denominations that have other views about the Godhead. You are welcome to have a look at it. If you are new to Christianity or just curious about orthodox doctrines, probably the best posts to read would be the ones listed below. I have also written a book on this subject, called the Trinity Hurdle. It's available in hard copy from the publishers, Wipf & Stock, or as an e-book through Amazon. As to personal information, I'm married with two girls who are both at university, and we have two cats, a dog, two birds and a lot of fish. I enjoy travel and scuba diving and engaging with the book that arguably has had the greatest impact on the thought, legislation and literature of the western (and increasingly the eastern) world; the Bible.

Why meerkats? I like they way they stand up and look around and engage with things others might avoid, like snakes and scorpions. Besides that, they're cute and I like puns.

What I believe

ABOUT

The Apostles' Creed

This early statement of Christian belief was probably composed in about the third century, not by the original apostles, but in keeping with their teachings.

I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth.

And in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary; suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead and buried; The third day he rose from the dead; he ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit; the holy universal church; the communion of the sanctified; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting.
